Bridging the Gap: What 2025 Taught Us About Mobile EV Charging in New Jersey
As electric vehicle adoption continues to grow across New Jersey, many EV drivers still face a common challenge—what happens when the battery runs out far from a charging station. RoadZap, a mobile EV charging service based in New Jersey, was created to solve that problem by bringing on-demand power directly to stranded drivers. By eliminating the need for tow trucks and providing fast roadside EV charging, mobile solutions are helping bridge the gap in today’s EV charging infrastructure and making electric vehicle ownership more convenient and reliable.
As we step into 2026, I’ve been reflecting on the whirlwind journey of launching RoadZap, a mobile EV charging business right here in New Jersey. Looking back at early 2025, I’ll be the first to admit: it was a challenge.
Starting a business is never easy, but bringing a completely new service to the Garden State felt like climbing a mountain. We weren’t just selling a product; we were introducing a concept that many New Jerseyans hadn’t seen before. People were used to gas stations and tow trucks, but the idea of a "power bank on wheels" for your car was still a novelty.
Breaking the "Normal Vehicle" Mold
One of the biggest lessons from 2025 is that EV ownership and adoption are not slowing down. By the end of last year, New Jersey saw registrations surge toward the 300,000 mark. However, a major hurdle remains: we are still trying to fit EV owners into the same categories as internal combustion engine (ICE) drivers.
An EV is not just a "car with a different fuel." The needs of an EV owner are unique, especially when things go wrong. If a gas car runs out of fuel, a friend can bring a gallon of gas in a plastic can. If an EV runs out of battery, the traditional "solution" has been to call a massive tow truck, wait an hour, and pay a hefty fee just to be moved three miles to a charger.
Why Mobile Charging is the Missing Link
Our infrastructure is growing, but it’s a massive undertaking that requires incredible amounts of energy and time-consuming grid upgrades. We can't wait decades for a charger to be on every corner. We need bridge solutions today.
Mobile charging services like RoadZap exist to solve the "simple" problems that the current infrastructure can't:
Grid Independence: We bring the power to you, meaning we don't put extra strain on a localized power grid that might already be at capacity.
Ending the Tow Truck Hassle: Running out of range should be a minor inconvenience, not a day-ruining event involving flatbeds and potential damage from improper towing.
Accessibility: We reach the "charging deserts" where permanent stations haven't been built yet.
The Mission: Awareness and Support
The biggest struggle of my journey hasn't been the technology. It’s been awareness. Many EV owners still don't know they have an option other than a tow truck. My mission, and the mission of RoadZap, is to spread the word that help is available.
We aren't alone in this. Across the country, other innovators are providing similar services, and together, we are proving that the "EV problem" is solvable. We are here to make EV ownership what it was always meant to be: clean, efficient, and above all, convenient.
2025 was about laying the foundation. 2026 is about making sure no EV owner in New Jersey ever feels stranded again.
